Our Solution

Interventions

A set of scalable, replicable interventions designed to minimise environmental impact, conserve water resources, and support batik city’s long-term economic and social future.

Three Integrated Levels of Action

Green Batik Transformation Programme delivers change through three mutually reinforcing levels, ensuring interventions are practical, replicable, and community-owned.

1

Practical Interventions

Implementing sustainable water sourcing, usage, and discharge systems, including aerated wetlands, for on-site wastewater treatment that remove pollutants before they reach rivers.

2

Sustainable Water Modelling

Creating replicable water management models and producing blueprints that other batik communities across Indonesia can follow to replicate the green transition.

3

Collaborative Transformation

Engaging Green Batik Champions, local authorities, universities, and value chain actors to foster systemic and community-led change, building the partnerships and governance structures needed for lasting transformation.

Current Interventions

The current interventions on Green Batik Pekalongan Pilot Project introduce practical and sustainable interventions throughout the water cycle in the batik industry: from water abstraction, water use in the production process, to the discharge of batik wastewater.

Through the adoption of more responsible production practices, wastewater treatment, and water-reuse systems, this project helps reduce pollution while improving water-use efficiency. This also demonstrates how traditional batik craftsmanship and technological innovation can work hand in hand to create a more environmentally friendly and resilient batik industry.
